India Pale Ales or IPA’s are a style of Pale Ale that tend to be a little hoppier than their regular Pale Ale cousins. As the flavour of hops fades relatively quickly, people noticed back in the empire days that the beer shipped over to India tasted different to the same beers back home. To combat this, brewers upped the amount of hops and, usually ABV, to offset this deterioration in flavour.

Nowadays, heavily hopped beers are back in style with brewers using a huge variety of hops to bring different flavours into their brews.
